A lovely group of people welcoming Rosana Pinheiro Machado in Cambridge after her talk.

This was a very special occasion where I finally met in person the incredible scholar Rosana Pinheiro Machado when she came to Cambridge to talk about her new book Amanhã Vai Ser Maior (Tomorrow it Will Be Greater), which explores the trajectory of Brazilian society from the mass protests of 2013 to the election of Bolsonaro in 2018.

Rosana is a friend of a great scholar friend of mine who introduced us when I was planning to apply for a master’s programme at the University of Cambridge. Having worked at Oxford University before, she gave me valuable information about application processes in England, which was instrumental in my acceptance at Cambridge. She is a generous person who helped me without ever meeting me and offered some encouraging words about my ongoing master’s research. I hope we can work together one day!
