Abstract:

A Degree with a Cost: Women's Sense of Belonging in Public Higher Education in Brazil and England
Record numbers of students from under-represented backgrounds have gained access to public higher education in the twenty-first century, among them women who are the first in their families to pursue a degree. But at what cost? This study explores women's experiences in diasporic spaces at university from a transnational and intergenerational perspective, based on the lived experiences of first-generation university students and their mothers, comparing the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) in Brazil and the University of Cambridge in England.
